SliTaz - #!/GNU/Linux

SliTaz is a free operating system, working completely in RAM and booting from removable media such as a cdrom or USB key. SliTaz is distributed as a LiveCD, and weighs less than 30MB. The system is quick and responsive, clean and robust. SliTaz is simple and intuitive, providing a lightweight, elegant desktop, detailed documentation and easy to use configuration tools.


SliTaz GNU/Linux is a free operating system working completely in memory from removeable media such as a cdrom or USB key. It is light, speedy and fully installable on a hard drive. SliTaz is distributed in the form of a LiveCD that you can easily burn to a cdrom and boot from. When the system is running you can eject the LiveCD and use your CD drive for other tasks. The Live system provides a fully-featured, working graphical distro and lets you keep your data and personal settings on persistent media. The system can be extended with the Tazpkg package manager and security updates are provided for the cooking and stable versions.

SliTaz stable version provides a mature operating system, widely tested by an active community. The core LiveCD offers you a large selection of multi-use packages carefully integrated into the distribution, thus resulting in a coherent and robust system. Current 3.0 stable version was released on 28 March 2010.


A bootable CDROM image of all available packages for version 3.0 is generated every day. It also contains a copy of the website and can be used without an internet connection via the install.sh script.

LiveCD Cooking version - Bootable ISO image of the cooking version. (Size: 32 MB)
SliTaz "Cooking" LiveCD is a constantly evolving version, fully usable, it allows you to test the latest improvements and packages, ask for new features or report bugs to help us to prepare for the stable version.

A bootable DVD image of all available packages for the Cooking version is generated every day. It also contains a copy of the website and can be used without an internet connection via the install.sh script. Note: This image can also be installed on an USB key, but it will overwrite all data.

Floppy disk - Bootable startup disk to launch the LiveCD, a USB stick, etc.
This floppy diskette can start SliTaz on old PCs with or without a CD-ROM. It can boot SliTaz from an usb flash drive, a SliTaz CD/DVD, a hard drive, the LAN by PXE and even the Internet with gPXE.
