FreeSBIE - Based on FreeBSD

FreeSBIE is a LiveCD based on the FreeBSD Operating system, or even easier, a FreeBSD-based operating system that works directly from a CD, without touching your hard drive. We also develop a simple to use and easily extendable toolkit used for the creation of the CD. This toolkit can also be used to make embedded images a-la miniBSD or nanoBSD.

Frequently Asked Questions
There is a different page for the
FreeSBIE-2.0-RELEASE Release Notes, Handbook and FAQ, What is FreeSBIE?
Simply: a live system on CD, or an operating system that is able to load directly from a bootable CD, without any installation process, without any hard disk.

What operating system is FreeSBIE based on?
It is based on the FreeBSD operating system

What are the goals of the project?
Our goals are mainly two:
- To develop a suite of programs to be used to create your own CD, with all the personalizations you like
- To make various ISO images available, maybe each one with its different goals and possible uses.

Is there a way to install FreeSBIE on my HD?
As of today, no, you cannot install FreeSBIE 2.0 on your hard disk. FreeSBIE is a LiveCD totally based on FreeBSD, so if you want a FreeSBIE on your hard disk, you can install FreeBSD and then copy the FreeSBIE configuration files.

My USB mouse does not work in FreeSBIE 2.0!
This is a known bug and we are sorry for the trouble. We are working on a FreeSBIE 2.0.1 release which will have a fix for this and for other bugs. Meanwhile, you can work around this problem by executing the following command: sudo /etc/rc.d/devd start .
